What does “custom” mean, how custom can the door be?
Every EasyBarn custom door is built to the height and width you enter, in millimetre increments, within our tier grid (up to 1200 × 2400 mm for barn doors). The style, panel layout, and finish are picked from our standard ranges, we don’t do bespoke joinery one-offs, but within those ranges almost every dimension is yours to set.
How much does a custom door cost?
Pricing is tier-based and scales with the size of your opening. Custom barn doors start at R 3,999, custom interior doors start at R 1,399. The live calculator on either configurator page shows your exact price the moment you enter your measurements, no quotes, no waiting.
How do I measure my opening correctly?
For a barn door, measure the height and width of the opening you want to cover. We recommend adding 50–100 mm to the width and 50 mm to the height so the door overlaps the opening on each side, this stops light, dust and sound from leaking around the edge.
For an interior door, measure the inside of the door frame, we’ll build the panel to suit. If you’re unsure, WhatsApp a photo of your opening with a tape measure visible and we’ll talk you through it.
How long does it take to make and deliver a custom door?
Most custom doors are built and dispatched within 4–7 working days of payment clearing. Delivery via national courier typically adds 1–3 working days depending on your location. Coastal metro areas (Cape Town, Durban, Gauteng) are usually quickest; rural and outlying KZN / Eastern Cape locations can add a day or two.
What does delivery cost?
A flat R 250 per order for nationwide courier, no surprise quotes by postal code, no weight surcharges. The door arrives crated and signed-for.
Is the sliding hardware included?
Yes for barn doors, no for interior doors. Every custom barn door ships with the full sliding hardware set in the box (top rail, rollers, end-stops, floor guide). Custom interior doors ship as the door panel only, hardware is not included, you supply your own hinges and handles to suit your install.
Can I install the door myself, or do I need a handyman?
Most homeowners install our doors themselves with a drill, a spirit level, and a Saturday afternoon. The door arrives with step-by-step instructions and a hardware kit. That said, the doors are heavy, especially the Hudson glazed barn door, so we always recommend a second pair of hands for lifting.
If you’d rather not DIY, any general handyman can install one of our doors in 1–2 hours.
What colour are the doors, do I need to paint them?
Every EasyBarn door, barn and interior, ships factory primed in a clean white undercoat. That means you can paint your final coat in any colour you want with standard interior enamel or chalk paint, so the door matches your home exactly. Many customers leave them in the natural primed white finish, which already looks great.
Think of it as: we build the door, you make it yours.
Can I return a custom door if I change my mind?
Because every door is built to your exact measurements, custom doors aren’t returnable for change-of-mind. They are, however, covered by our 7-day quality guarantee, if anything is wrong with build quality or hardware, we make it right at our cost.
Do you ship to the whole of South Africa?
Yes. We ship nationwide from our Durban factory to every province in South Africa via national courier. We don’t currently ship internationally.
Can I see a door in person before I order?
We don’t have a public showroom, but if you’re in the Durban area you’re welcome to stop by the factory by appointment. Get in touch and we’ll set it up.
I need a size bigger than your maximum, can you help?
Possibly. The calculator covers our standard tier grid, but for openings that fall outside it (oversized garage-to-room conversions, double-stacked barn doors, multi-leaf interior doors) WhatsApp us on 062 211 2040 with a sketch of your opening and we’ll see what we can do.
